Dr. G. N Sangeetha - An inspiring visionary

Dr G. N. Sangeetha(1973), a Bangalorean, at the age of 7, lost her eye sight in both eyes due to the growth of Brain Tumor on the Optic Nerve. As per the guidance of National Association for the Blind (NAB), Karnataka Branch, She was able to continue her education . She is B.A., M.A. (Women’s Studies) graduate from Bangalore University , Successfully completed National Eligibility Test and Junior Research Fellowship exams conducted in the year 2001 from U.G.C. She has a PhD (Women’s Studies), Hampshe University
Title : Role of Women’s organizations in Empowerment of Distressed Women in Karnataka to her credit. Dr, G. N. Sangeetha is the first Blind Woman to have received Doctorate in the State of Karnataka. She is independent and working as a Documentarist in N.M.K.R.V. Women’s College, Jayanagar IISHE Block, Bangalore till date.

Her mission now is to work for the upliftment of Handicapped Women & fighting for their Rights.

She is the author of the Book “Women’s Organisations in Modern Era”
, “The Empowerment of Visually impaired women through solution of their socio-psychological problems”.

She had a blessed opportunity of meeting Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, the Honorable President of India.

In March 1990, She was the only candidate selected from India by an Organization named "SIGHT SAVERS" (Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind) to participate in the 40th Anniversary Celebrations in Britain. There she had the unique opportunity of meeting the Queen Elizabeth and garlanding her at West Minister's Abbey which is a memorable event in her Life.

In December 2003, she visited Lahore to attend an Youth Conference organized by the Asian Blind Union and Pakistani Blind Association.

AWARDS AND FELICITATION :

Governor’s Award at Raj Bhavan on 26.01.2005

National Award from Ministry For Social Justice and Empowerment Delhi, presented by His Excellency, The Vice President of India on 03.12.2008.

Felicitation by State Government of Karnataka as the Best Physically Challenged Women on 04.01.2009.

Felicitation by State Government of Karnataka for achievement of PhD at Kanteerava Indoor Stadium on 03.12.2011.
